Sunday, Duluth, Mn- Beaner’s Central closed four hours early for Employee Appreciation Day. Leaving myself and a few other regular coffee drinkers a little dazed to leave our caffeinated hangout spot so early. With few alternative options for coffee after 3 pm. Beaners regulars abruptly became “coffugees”.
Customers were mildly annoyed when one of Beaner’s charming staff members kindly reminded us that they were closing in 15 minutes. Some stayed to finished their last refill of the day and others casually grabbed their jackets in preparation to leave early.
Beaner’s has a monopoly on Sunday evening casual coffee. Grand World Coffee is a few blocks down the street on Grand avenue, however their winter hours means their doors close at 3:30. The Lake Superior Bake house downtown is closed on Sunday’s.
I was saddened when other coffee shops were closed for us coffugees. We are a humble group who only want to get wired and have good conversation specifically on Sunday evenings.
Employee Appreciation day is an annual event and was mentioned on Beaner’s Facebook page.
